Preparing our students to face the real world
Even though ISCSstudents are consistently attainingoutstanding results proven by external examination results which are well above averages in the UK and most schools in UAE, we are aware that we need to make provision for our students to become responsible adults of tomorrow on top of their academic successes.
As part of the programme ISCS provides opportunities for students to take responsibilities within the school as well as outside the school in various activities including work experience.
Leadership Opportunities
This is a core value fully integrated across Grade 10, 11, 12 & 13 students. Students are given the opportunity to gear different activity groups and help organise different events in the school. Students also experiment with and develop their leadership potential within the subject classroom dynamics of group and pair work and through our structured Leadership Programme which includes Students Council Reps, Activity Committee, Peer Mentors, Student Leaders, Sports Team Captains, Sixth Form Committee, Head Boy and Head Girl.
As well the above students are given the opportunity to have freedom of expressing themselves of rather students’ voice via the Students Council.
This democratically elected body of students’ purpose is to represent their peers; to be a forum for active and constructive student input into the daily life of the school community from canteen improvements to uniform review, even now students are considering ISCS LiveTV/Radio, environmental issues, social and charity fund-raising events.
Work Experience
Students of Grade 12/13 have the opportunities to participate in the ISCS Work Experience Scheme that usually takes place during academic year and during free times.
In 2007 – 2008 academic year, G11 students had the opportunity to gain work-related experience in diverse organizations such as the Sharjah Car museum, the Mother and Child Centre, the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services and diverse companies of the Bukhatir Group.
The objective of the work placement scheme is to enable students to utilise their skills in a workplace environment as well as to get a realistic impression of working life.
The ISCS work placement scheme is expected to further develop in order to offer greater opportunities for our Grade 10, 11 and A level students to gain hands-on experience on the career that they wish to pursue after their higher education.
Currently, in place students are given the opportunity to:
Mentor younger students with reading and support them in classes
Admin duties around the school
Gearing activity groups with other grades in coordination with Directors & Supervisors
IT Support to staff
Lab Technician opportunities to gain further practical skills in preparing lab work for younger students
Mentoring the less able children at the Sharjah Humanitarian Services
Helping in the Local Animal Farm
